Session description

This session bridges the gap between equity-centered pedagogy and practice, focusing on student voice, teacher empowerment, and community-building. Grounded in frameworks like Understanding by Design and the work of Freire, Hooks, and Ladson-Billings, participants will explore tools for fostering Identity, Belonging, Inquiry, and Efficacy amid global unrest.

Introduction (5 minutes)
Welcome & Overview: Briefly introduce the session objectives and the importance of equity in education.
Icebreaker: Participants share one word that describes their vision for an inclusive classroom.
Understanding Equity-Centered Pedagogy (10 minutes)
Presentation (5 minutes): Define equity-centered pedagogy and its importance in today's educational context.
Discussion (5 minutes): Facilitate a group discussion on the challenges educators face in implementing these practices.
Exploring Digital Tools (15 minutes)
Tool Demonstration (7 minutes): Present 2-3 digital tools (e.g., Padlet, Flip, Google Classroom) that promote student voice and agency.
Hands-On Activity (8 minutes): Participants choose a tool and brainstorm how they can use it in their classrooms to foster inclusivity and engagement.
Actionable Strategies for Inclusive Learning (15 minutes)
Small Group Activity (10 minutes): Divide participants into small groups to discuss and develop strategies for creating inclusive learning environments. Each group selects one strategy to present.
Group Sharing (5 minutes): Groups share their strategies, encouraging feedback and discussion.
Reflective Practices (10 minutes)
