How Habits of Mind Unites School Culture and Self-Discovery

For 30 years, Habits of Mind has been a guiding framework for learning, including dispositions such as creating, imagining, and innovating and listening with understanding and empathy. This panel will show how students and schools become more thoughtful, responsive, and innovative when we incorporate the habits into our learning communities.

Outcomes:

• Learn about the timeless and timely framework of Habits of Mind. • Hear examples from practitioners about the impact of Habits of Mind on students, teachers, and the school community. • Feel inspired by ideas that might work for all developmental levels of the school community.

Dr. Liz Locatelli

Consultant

Institute for Habits of the Mind

As a former ELA teacher, founder of an alternative program, and adjunct professor, Liz sought to empower learners at all levels to believe in their ability to succeed. Over the last 12 years, she has worked in many districts throughout the state and in the DOE, helping educators to make learning meaningful, clarify expectations and provide feedback that allows students to improve their own performance. Three years ago, she began partnering with Bena Kallick and has been amazed by the transformation she’s seen as teachers integrate the Habits of Mind and Attributes of Personalized Learning into their daily practice.
