Journey to Resilient Leadership: Navigating School Culture Challenges With Emotional Intelligence and a Values Assessment

In this engaging session, education leaders will explore strategies for navigating challenging culture and climate conditions within their school environment. Inspired by the new ASCD book "The EQ Way: How Emotionally Intelligent Leaders Navigate Turbulent Times," participants will learn how to identify and align their school’s core values to help navigate challenging times in their schools. The session aims to provide practical insights and solutions for education leaders facing challenges related to the cultural and climate aspects of their school. This workshop will introduce a "values" assessment approach that has been successfully employed in some schools facing headwinds. This assessment approach is designed to promote a sense of belonging and relevance in both the school's culture and climate, and it equips leaders with an evidenced-based approach to closing some of the key "gaps" in their school's culture and climate.

Outcomes:

Participants will enhance their ability to identify and articulate specific challenges related to cultural and climate conditions within their school environment, fostering a deeper understanding of the issues at hand that impact our students’ academic success; explore practical insights into strategies for navigating challenging culture and climate conditions in schools by leveraging emotional intelligence; identify team-level skills and strategies aligned to core values that contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment; and learn how to implement a "values" assessment strategy to close the gaps in what we value versus what we enact in our schools.
