Linking Co-teaching, UDL, and PBIS: A Winning Combination for Inclusion

Have a diverse class, a partner, and a headache? Learn practical strategies for working collaboratively to manage behaviors, engage struggling learners and remove instructional barriers, and have a great time doing it! In this humorous and upbeat session, we'll model co-teaching, while offering concrete tips for all levels.

Outcomes:

You'll leave the session able to: - Identify the critical components of effective co-teaching. - Describe ways in which Universal Design for Learning can remove barriers for academic, behavioral and social access. - List strategies to embed positive behavioral intervention and supports (PBIS) into a typical classroom. - Explain how co-teaching can ensure that UDL and PBIS are integrated into an inclusive classroom for maximum success. - Recognize the benefits of an inclusive, co-taught classroom for all learners.

Melissa Jenkins, PhD, is an associate professor of special education at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. She served students in Virginia public schools for 18 years as a special educator, instructional coach, and central office administrator. Melissa is co-author of Connecting High Leverage Practices to Student Success: Collaboration in Inclusive Classrooms. She is dedicated to supporting educators in implementing strategies that lead to positive academic and social emotional outcomes for all learners.
