Middle school science teachers are faced with a variety of challenges in the classroom including helping students develop their scientific literacy and collecting and analyzing data while navigating students’ varied reading literacy levels. Visitors to this station will learn how one teacher uses free AI tools to make complex scientific research texts more accessible to all of her learners. Starting with complex texts and ideas, teachers can use AI to create infographics, slides, and multi-leveled texts to ensure that all students, regardless of language or reading level, have access to science content. The use of varied text formats also ensures that students develop media literacy skills while engaging with science content. The information shared in this session aligns to ISTE, NGSS, and Common Core literacy standards and can be used with various science disciplines. While the station emphasizes science, the AI tools and techniques can be used across content areas.
