Attendees will learn how to:
1. Articulate the Value of HQIM and Equity
Define the key components that distinguish HQIM, such as alignment to rigorous academic standards, evidence-based instructional practices, and culturally responsive design.
Analyze the Impact: Evaluate the research evidence (e.g., studies on months of learning gains) demonstrating how HQIM significantly improves student achievement and narrows the achievement gap, especially for historically underserved students.
Connect to Equity: Explain how HQIM promotes instructional equity by ensuring all students receive consistent access to rigorous, grade-level content and high-quality assignments.
2. Guide Selection and Implementation
Evaluate Curriculum: Apply criteria and best practices for selecting new materials, including assessing rigor, cultural relevance, support for multilingual learners, and embedded assessment tools.
Plan for Implementation: Outline the essential leadership and system-level actions required to successfully launch HQIM, moving beyond mere adoption to achieve fidelity and sustained use.
Overcome Implementation Gaps: Recognize common challenges (e.g., limited teacher buy-in, insufficient professional development) and define strategies for mitigating them.
3. Support Teachers and System Alignment
Prioritize Professional Learning: Recognize the critical importance of curriculum-aligned professional development and instructional coaching in building teacher content knowledge, confidence, and competence in using HQIM.
Foster Internalization: Identify and implement structures—such as Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning—that support teachers in deeply internalizing the curriculum to tailor instruction to students' needs.
Integrate Data and Materials: Explain how to use student work and assessment data(actionable insights) to monitor student mastery, inform instructional adjustments, and drive continuous improvement within the HQIM framework.
Presenters will review and discuss the three learning targets, engaging the audience in an interactive review of HQIM materials to determine how they can be used to increase student outcomes. The audience will then engage in table discussions on research areas related to HQIM and student achievement to solidify the purpose of fidelity in implementing HQIM.
Table 1: Argues that curriculum reform is one of the most cost-effective ways to boost student achievement, with impacts comparable to or greater than many more costly interventions.
Table 2: Demonstrates the long-term impact of curriculum rigor on post-secondary outcomes.
Table 3: Provides quantitative evidence that switching to a high-quality math textbook can lead to significant student achievement gains (e.g., equivalent to several months of additional learning).
Table 4: Discuss a highly influential report from TNTP that found students, especially those of color and from low-income backgrounds, were often given below-grade-level assignments, and that providing access to grade-appropriate content (a core function of HQIM) significantly closes achievement gaps.

Presenters will conclude with a call to action, emphasizing the importance of implementing HGIM with fidelity to achieve desirable results and exploring technology-rich HGIM to personalize learning for each learner.
