Session Outline: Real Stories, Real Connections: Exploring the America 250 Video Hub With Students
1. Welcome & Hook (5 minutes)
Open with a short, compelling clip from the America 250 Video Hub to immediately demonstrate the quality and relevance of the content. Pose a discussion question to the room: "How do you currently bring American history and civics to life for your students?" Brief show-of-hands responses to gauge the audience and build connection.
2. Hub Overview — What's Inside (10 minutes)
Live walkthrough of the America 250 Video Hub, covering content range, grade-level offerings, and curriculum connections to social studies and civics standards. Highlight how content reflects diverse American perspectives and experiences. Presenter-led with audience encouraged to follow along on their own devices.
3. Hands-On Exploration (15 minutes)
Attendees explore the hub independently or in pairs on their devices. Guided by a simple prompt: "Find one video you could use in your classroom next week and note how it connects to your curriculum." Pairs then share findings with a neighbouring group — brief peer-to-peer discussion to surface a variety of classroom applications.
4. Real-Time Feedback Activity (10 minutes)
Using a live polling tool (such as Mentimeter or Poll Everywhere), attendees respond to targeted questions about the hub's usability, content gaps, and classroom potential. Results are displayed and discussed in real time, giving presenters immediate insight and making attendees active contributors to the hub's development.
5. Wrap-Up & Key Takeaways (5 minutes)
Recap the three session outcomes. Share resources and next steps for accessing the hub. Open the floor for final questions.
After this session, participants will be able to:
Navigate the America 250 Video Hub and identify video content that aligns with their grade level and social studies or civics curriculum standards.
Design classroom-ready lessons and activities using hub content that reflect diverse American perspectives and support learner variability.
Evaluate the hub's resources critically and contribute informed feedback on how the content meets real classroom needs across K-12 contexts.
