Session description

Join us in the Creativity Crossroads for a drop-in hands-on art workshop led by an educator from the student project showcase who brings creativity in learning to life!

CTRL+ALT-Remix Workshop
This drop-in art workshop invites conference participants to explore how people represent and interpret AI and intelligence through creation, reinterpretation, and connection. The experience is organized around three self-guided stations inspired by the title of the installation: CTRL, ALT, and Remix. Each station highlights a different stage in how ideas about AI and intelligence develop: shaping an idea, shifting perspective, and connecting interpretations within a shared network. Participants may begin at any station and spend as much time as they like at each.

CTRL= Shape the Idea: At this station participants shape an idea by creating a small representation of an aspect of AI, intelligence, or the relationship between humans and machines. Using drawing tools or simple sculpting materials, they’ll externalize a concept, system, or experience. In computing, the Ctrl key modifies how an action takes place; similarly, this station invites participants to use the process of creating to influence how an idea takes form rather than produce polished artwork.

ALT= Shift Perspective: At this station participants reinterpret an idea by responding to a drawing from the installation wall. They may redraw it from a different perspective, extend the idea, imagine what happens before or after the moment shown, or represent the concept in another form. In computing, the Alt key enables alternate commands; similarly, this station invites participants to explore how changing perspective can transform the meaning of a representation. Participants may also scan a QR code to engage with an AI chatbot that offers observations and reflective questions about the drawing, allowing them to compare human and AI interpretations.

Remix= Connect (the Network): At this station participants explore how ideas evolve through interaction. They identify relationships between drawings on the wall and use thread and pins to connect images that share themes, contrasts, or ideas about AI and intelligence. As connections accumulate, the installation becomes a visible network of interpretations. The remixing process highlights how understanding develops collectively as people build on and respond to one another’s representations.
