Session description
The Red Hearts Program, which was developed organically when I was a school principal, is a relationship-centered approach that changes school culture by helping staff respond to escalated behavior with calming language and strategic approaches. Additionally, this program pairs students with trusted adult mentors who are not responsible for discipline. These mentors provide a safe space for students to reset, reflect, and build self-regulation skills through strategies like social stories, guided conversations, and consistent check-ins. The program is grounded in trauma-informed practices, emphasizing emotional safety, connection, and predictable support. By separating discipline from relationship-building, Red Hearts helps students feel seen and supported while reducing behavioral escalations and strengthening school climate.
