Session description

Calling mentors and those working with new teachers! This session covers strategies to boost beliefs and build collective teacher efficacy for students and teachers. We'll explore creating an environment supporting independent learners and innovative mindsets, helping new teachers in rural, suburban, and urban areas serve all students.

Outline

10 minutes - Introduction of Student-Centered Mentoring Connection to Collective Teacher Efficacy; Highlight strategies to use with new teachers and how they can be used in the classroom; Partner/Table Group - Share a proud teaching moment.
20 minutes - Strategy Highlight: Reflect on Beliefs; Share a Mentee’s Story about beliefs guiding goal-setting; Individually - explore belief statements and share key takeaways; 4-Corner Whole Group Activity - selecting statement that stands out most and discussing why with the chosen statement group.
10 minutes - Strategy Highlight: Establish an Innovative Mindset; Partner/Table Group - Brainstorm ideas for using the progression
10 minutes - Strategy 4 Highlight: Set the Stage to Foster Independent Learners; Visualize a classroom of students - compare independent vs. dependent learner classrooms; Start the Conversation Table Group Activity - Choose/Revise questions to promote conversations with new teachers.
10 minutes - Closing: ONE Reflection - Reflect on ONE strategy you are most excited about using; Share with a colleague; Share additional resources
