Session description

Move beyond theory and build practical AI solutions for your learners. In this hands-on lab, participants will use Google AI Studio's no-code environment to design and create a custom educational app. They will leave with a functional prototype and a repeatable framework for creating future tools.

Outline

1. (10 mins) Introduction & Collaborative Brainstorming: Session overview and a group activity where participants identify common classroom challenges. We will connect this to educators acting as leaders who identify and address student needs.

2. (10 mins) Analyze & Deconstruct: Live analysis of a pre-built educational AI app. We will deconstruct its functionality and the prompts behind it, demonstrating how to create personalized learning experiences and integrating the 9 characteristics of great AI apps proposed by the University of Michigan.

3. (35 mins) Hands-On App Creation (The TAPI Method). This will be done in the following way:

i. Think (5 mins): Guided activity to define a specific problem and desired student outcome.

ii. Analyze (5 mins): Participants outline the features their app needs.

iiii. Prompt (15 mins): Facilitator-led, hands-on time in Google AI Studio to write and refine prompts.

iv. Iterate (10 mins): Testing prototypes and a peer feedback session.

4. (10 mins) Implementation Plan & Wrap-up: Participants will draft an action plan for using their new app to help students take ownership of their learning goals. We'll discuss next steps for implementation and sharing.

Outcomes

Participants will leave with a functional, AI-powered educational app prototype they designed and built themselves. They will also take away a completed action plan outlining the steps for implementing this new tool in their classroom and a repeatable design framework (TAPI) for solving future educational challenges.
