Event Information
This highly interactive workshop begins with a brief introduction connecting the power of voice to student engagement and formative assessment. Participants will immediately experience the creative process by recording a short autobiographical micropodcast using the native voice recorder on their device—no downloads required. Next, the session transitions into editing and enhancing these recordings using Soundtrap, focusing on clarity, tone, and concise communication. The second activity challenges participants to research and script a brief podcast episode from an unconventional point of view, reinforcing perspective-taking and creativity. The final collaborative project pairs participants to create a lighthearted, constraint-based podcast, illustrating how purposeful limits drive focus and teamwork. Throughout the session, participants will engage in peer-to-peer listening, reflection, and quick turn-and-talks to discuss classroom applications. The closing discussion centers on assessment strategies, accessibility tips, and cross-curricular ideas. Time is divided evenly among project creation, editing, and reflection to ensure participants leave with both hands-on experience and ready-to-implement classroom ideas.
After this session, participants will be able to design and implement short, purposeful podcasting activities that amplify student voice and creativity. They will gain the skills to guide students through planning, recording, editing, and publishing audio projects using accessible tools. Participants will also leave with adaptable templates and assessment ideas for integrating micropodcasting into lessons that support communication and collaboration.
