Sheryl R. Abshire, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized edtech leader, ISTE author, speaker, and consultant with more than 40 years of experience advancing innovation, leadership, and equity in K-12 education. Her career spans roles as classroom teacher, library/media specialist, school principal, assistant professor, and Chief Technology Officer for the award-winning Calcasieu Parish Public Schools in Louisiana. This diverse background provides her with unique systems-level perspectives on how instruction, technology, policy, and leadership intersect improving student outcomes.
As CTO, Sheryl led transformative initiatives in one-to-one learning, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity readiness, and professional learning. She is known for aligning technology investments with instructional priorities and translating complex challenges into practical strategies for education leaders. An ISTE Certified Educator and Certified Cybersecurity Rubric Evaluator, she helped lead the ISTE national standards and the U.S. Department of Education's NETP.
Dr. Abshire is past Chair of CoSN Board and currently serves on multiple national committees and served on USAC Board. She facilitates CoSN's Early Career K12 CTO Academy, mentoring emerging leaders. Her honors include CoSN Seymour Papert Lifetime Achievement Award, ISTE's Public Policy Advocate of the Year and 2025 Founders Award from the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training (NCTET) for her lifetime of advocacy for educational technology.
