Simmons’ leadership journey spans teaching, school administration, and districtwide innovation. Early in his career, he worked in Detroit classrooms and administrative roles before taking a pivotal principalship where he led persistently low-performing schools through rapid improvement. Under his leadership, Kramer Middle School in Washington, D.C., became the first blended-learning school in the district, earning notable improvements in test scores and national attention for its innovative approach to instruction. His work during this period was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Simmons received his undergraduate degree from Hampton University and completed master’s programs at Columbia University and Georgetown University. In 2015, Simmons was the recipient of the BET Honors Award for Excellence in Education. He has appeared in national press and educational platforms as an authority on school transformation, adaptive leadership, and equity-driven systems.
