Session description

This session, led by an educator and attorney, will explore the legal implications and complexities related to AI in schools. We will discuss privacy concerns, data protection, and compliance with COPPA, FERPA, and relevant laws. We will discuss how to provide guidance on navigating these challenges.

Outline

Depending on survey results, we may go over some AI-related terms so that everyone clearly understands the terminology used and what to look for on AI sites.
We will discuss COPPA, FERPA, and other guidelines, such as those specific to special education or when using tools and technologies that are not U.S.-based and are in compliance with GDPR and what that means. (10-15 minutes)
Examples of tools, evaluation and small group discussion. Attendees will learn how to evaluate and share ideas within a group and with the whole group. (10-15 minutes)

Questions will be asked of attendees and time will be available for discussion within the group. Additional topics will be covered, such as cyberbullying which has changed as a result of the capabilities of generative AI and the use of deepfakes, for example. (20 minutes).

Remaining time, if any, will be allotted for additional content, based on the results of the survey that will be shared and reviewed in real-time to provide the best session and information.
