Session description

This session explores the impact of the ISTE Certification on professional development and learner success. Drawing from personal experience, I will share strategies for growth, aligning with ISTE standards, and provide practical examples to enhance teaching practices, foster engagement, and support educator and learner growth in technology-driven classrooms.

Outline

- Introduction and Session Overview (2 minutes)
Briefly introduce the session, outlining the focus on aligning educator growth with ISTE standards and improving student engagement through technology integration. Quick poll to gather feedback and set the stage.

- Real-Life Example + Teaching and Learning Strategies (20 minutes)
Share the detailed example of the video editing project in Grade 5. Display the video editing project workflow, including the documentation of steps. Highlight with the strategies used. Review the results and discuss how these strategies align with modern pedagogy.

- Alignment with ISTE Standards and Professional Growth (6 minutes)
Highlight which specific standards were met through this teaching practice. Discuss how creating a portfolio helped me as an educator to reflect on my practice and celebrate successes. Showcase how it offers a structured path for tracking growth.

- Co-learning with students about generative AI tools (5 minutes)
Another live example of how we explored AI tools in Canva. Examples of students’ work and how we emphasized academic integrity at the end of the project.

- Tracking Progress with Standards (5 minutes)
The importance of aligning teaching practice with international standards. Introduce the Google Sheet that I use to track the coverage of learning outcomes and the alignment with international standards.

- Key Takeaways and Call to Action (4 minutes)
Reflect on how you currently track your growth and an invitation to consider pursuing ISTE Certification.

- Q&A and Closing (3 minutes)
Open the floor for audience questions and final remarks.

Meeting the Challenges of STEM education in K-12. Education through Design Thinking: https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1299969.pdf, Table 2. Comparison of d.school, HPI, and IDEO design thinking approaches considering Brown’s design thinking approach
Three dominant DT methods are commonly employed within education:
Stanford's d.school approach (since 2005) consists of five stages: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test
Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) approach (since 2008) has six stages: Understand, Observe, Point of View, Ideate, Prototype, Test
IDEO's approach (since 2012) includes five stages and a zero-step: Define a Challenge, Discovery, Interpretation, Ideation, Experimentation, Evolution.
All three Design Thinking (DT) approaches have similarities with Brown's method.
