Session description

An archivist and elementary teacher developed a scaffolded unit that draws on archival documents. The students are instructed to think strategically about the story their imaginary sustainable community will tell. The students are learning from the past and present to build a community for the future.

Outline

We will demonstrate how we created a scoffolded, multiweek unit.

We will demonstrate how archivists and teachers can collaborate to create a multidisciplinary unit.

We will use digitized archival documents and an open-source unit to demonstrate how to apply the work to different classroom settings.
