Session description

School-based mentoring provides an invaluable opportunity to support students growing into the fullest version of themselves. Learn how to design, develop, & implement a growth-producing mentoring program. Participants will understand the research regarding youth mentoring, gain insights & receive resources for building a unique program to serve their community.

Outline

Content:
- Importance of mentorship for youth: Discuss the benefits and the “why” behind mentorship for young people's development, including academic achievement, social skills, and emotional well-being.
- Key components of a successful mentoring program: Provide an overview of the essential elements of a youth-centered mentoring program, such as matching criteria, training, and support systems.
- Best practices for mentoring relationships: Provide practical tips and strategies for effective mentoring interactions, including active listening, providing guidance, and setting goals.
- Addressing challenges in mentoring: Discuss common challenges that may arise in mentoring relationships and offer solutions for overcoming them.

Engagement:
- Interactive storytelling: Share personal anecdotes or case studies to illustrate the impact of mentorship on young people's lives.
- Small group discussions: Divide participants into smaller groups to discuss their experiences with mentoring or to brainstorm ideas for their own programs.
- Q&A sessions: Encourage audience participation by answering questions and addressing their concerns.
- Peer-to-peer interaction: Facilitate opportunities for participants to connect with each other and share their experiences.
