Session description

Our session explores the tools we incorporated into our program due to being unable to find accessible curricular materials for our Deaf students. Using combinations of readily available technology (QR codes, Loom, etc.), we have been able to level the playing field and provide direct access to all learning materials.

Outline

Introduction - brief discussion of presenters’ backgrounds and experiences

Challenges we faced as educators of Deaf students - lack of resources, communication barriers, lack of funding, lack of accessible curriculum materials

Our plan of action - brainstorming how to overcome barriers, doing the legwork, and finding tools

Implementation - living the plan: beginning to learn and use the technology tools (QR codes, Loom, etc.); having students begin to use these tools themselves as learner, teachers, and creators of their own learning

The Future - the ongoing work to support and improve what we are successfully using, as well as continuing to find more tools to help support a fully accessible learning environment for our Deaf students
