Session description

Learn to maximize instructional time by reducing behavioral concerns. Using research undergirded by child development theory, motivational theory, and applied behavior analysis, the presenter will lead attendees through interactive simulations to develop behavioral analysis skills. Educators will be able to understand, identify, and defuse behavior concerns that stifle student achievement.

(5 mins) Interactive Discussion – How does student behavior impact student achievement?
(5 mins) First Simulated Activity – Attendees Analyzing Behavior
(5 mins) The Function and Purpose of Behavior
(5 mins) Explore research on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABCs)
(5 mins) Participants will interact in a Think-Pair-Share activity that requires the application of applied behavior analysis skills
(5 mins) Participants will discuss antecedents, target behaviors, and consequences
(5 mins) Participants will interact in a Think-Pair-Share activity based on the most common problematic behaviors they desire to address from their local context
(10 mins) Participants will analyze (2) video clips displaying behavior concerns and discuss the best approach for defusing the target behavior based on applied behavior analysis
(5 mins) Participants will gain (4) strategies for understanding and defusing behavior concerns in the academic setting
