Session description

This hands-on workshop empowers educators to co-create culturally responsive and technologically responsible tools for diverse classrooms. Participants will apply Culturally Responsive Teaching principles and ISTE standards to collaboratively design digital lesson plans, assessment rubrics, and interactive activities, leaving with practical tools that promote equity and responsible tech use.

Outline

• Introduction (10 minutes)
Participants will engage in an interactive icebreaker that invites them to share their experiences in diverse classrooms. This will set the stage for exploring how CRT and ISTE standards can be used to create culturally responsive educational tools. The facilitator will introduce the session goals and emphasize the role of responsible technology integration.

• Exploring CRT and ISTE Standards (20 minutes)
Participants will explore how CRT principles (e.g., validating cultural identities, fostering inclusivity) intersect with ISTE standards such as Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, and Knowledge Constructor. Group discussions will focus on how these frameworks can enhance teaching practices in diverse classrooms. Practical examples of digital tools will be shared.

• Co-Creation of Classroom Tools (40 minutes)
In small groups, participants will co-create one of the following tools:
- Digital Lesson Plan Frameworks: Templates designed to integrate both CRT principles and ISTE standards, ensuring lessons are culturally inclusive and leverage technology for responsible use.
- Interactive Learning Activity Templates: Activities that incorporate digital tools like gamification and adaptive learning platforms to enhance student engagement.
- Quick Assessment Rubrics: Simple, digital rubrics that allow for immediate feedback, customized to student needs and responsive to cultural diversity.
- Resource Sharing Lists: Curated lists of digital resources that educators can share with their students, designed to support diverse cultural perspectives.
- Tech Integration Guidelines: A practical guide for incorporating AI, responsible digital citizenship, and adaptive learning systems into lesson plans in ways that respect cultural differences.

Facilitators will provide structured guidance, using templates and models to help participants collaborate and develop these resources.

• Presentation and Feedback (15 minutes)
Each group will present their tool to the larger group, highlighting how CRT principles and ISTE standards were applied. A structured feedback process will allow participants to refine their tools with input from peers and facilitators, ensuring adaptability for various educational contexts.

• Wrap-Up and Next Steps (5 minutes)
Participants will finalize their tools and receive access to an online collaboration space where they can continue sharing and refining their work. Follow-up support will include webinars focused on implementing these tools and exploring emerging technology trends such as AI and adaptive learning in culturally responsive education.
