Session description

Students will tell you how to create a line of unique, handmade products to sell at the school's Christmas market. The goal is to develop a business where profits go towards supporting charitable causes or people in need.

Outline

Introduction (5 minutes): Present the session's objective and introduce the "Maker Market Store" project, emphasizing its community impact and entrepreneurial aspects.
Brainstorming Product Ideas (10 minutes): In small groups, participants brainstorm potential products, encouraging creativity. Groups share their ideas to inspire others.
Design Process Introduction (10 minutes): Explain the steps of a deliberate design process (idea generation, prototyping, testing, iteration) and give real-world examples to contextualize.
Group Activity – Create a Product Concept (15 minutes): Groups choose an idea, sketch or describe the concept, considering materials, audience, and features, applying the design process introduced earlier.
Sharing and Feedback (10 minutes): Groups present their concepts for quick, constructive feedback, refining ideas based on peer input.
Assigning Roles and Responsibilities (5 minutes): Discuss the different roles within the project (e.g., designer, marketer), guiding participants to think about their preferred role.
Wrap-Up and Next Steps (5 minutes): Summarize key takeaways and outline the next steps in the project. End with a brief Q&A session.
