Hands-on activities and discussions will equip attendees with tools for educational transformation.

Outline

Introduction and Vision (5 minutes):
This session will begin with a brief overview of the Portrait of a Graduate framework, focusing on how it transforms classrooms and prepares students for future success.

Preliminary Research Insights (5 minutes):
Participants will be presented with concise research findings from districts implementing the Portrait of a Graduate, with a focus on the instructional shifts observed.

Group Activity and Discussion (20 minutes):
Participants will engage in a scenario-based challenge where they collaborate to solve instructional challenges by applying POG competencies. Small groups will work together to identify strategies for integrating POG into their own districts, fostering active engagement and peer-to-peer learning.

Supporting research

This session is grounded in both original research and established educational frameworks. The Portrait of a Graduate (POG) framework, supported by organizations like EdLeader21 and Battelle for Kids, offers a vision for 21st-century learning that emphasizes critical competencies such as communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. Additionally, Scott McLeod’s research on school leadership and innovation underscores the role of visionary leadership in creating transformative learning environments. This session will also include the results of an original research study conducted by the presenters, providing evidence of how districts are implementing the POG framework and its impact on instructional practices.
