Session description

Join us to distinguish grades from feedback, identify ways dominant white discourses & behavioral expectations are present in assessment practices, and explore possibilities for dimension-based (versus standards-based) rubrics that clarify learning progressions and value critical consciousness. Participants will leave with a list of resources—frameworks, Q&A blogs, & templates.

Outline

10 mins: Opening turn & talk or digital poll on current grading practices/beliefs

10 mins: Interactive lecture presenting 2 frameworks (Inoue & Feldman/Competency Collaborative)

10 mins: Explore/annotate sample rubrics and grading policies in small groups (or in pairs or whole group) as room setup requires

10 mins: Draft a “re-envisioned” rubric line in small groups (or in pairs or whole group) as room setup requires

10 mins: Interactive lecture presenting multiple approaches to calculating grades

10 mins: Q&A led by participants and overview of resources participants will leave with
